Crane Union High School provides career readiness opportunities to Seniors through internship opportunities. One-way internships are coordinated through the High Desert Partnership. Check out their page to explore the internships they have available. The other way is by direct communication with community partners, usually one with wich the student already has a relationship.
1) If you are interested in an internship through High Desert Partnership, fill out the application on their website first.
2) Complete the Crane Union High School Internship Packet and return it via email to kjoyce@craneedu.org.
Semester 1 final paperwork and decision must be turned in by Wednesday, August 20th (the Wednesday before school starts). Students will need to start their internship on Day 1 of school.
Semester 2 Final paperwork and decision must be turned in by Thursday, November 21st
3) Schedule an initial meeting with Mrs. Joyce, your immediate supervisor, and yourself during the first week of school. At this meeting, we will set your educational objectives.
For students in their Senior year the High Desert partnership offers MANY options for students to participate in internships and gain work experience. This includes multiple options to explore careers in health care.
North East Area Health Education Center offers two different overnight camp opportunities each summer that students can apply for. Camps are open to all high school students from incoming freshmen to graduating seniors. Scholarships may be available.
Frontier Med Quest is held right here in Harney County. 5 days, 4 nights! Students stay in the Crane dorm and travel to Burns for activities at Harney District Hospital.
Rural Med Quest is held in LaGrande, Oregon. 6 days, 5 nights! Students will stay at EOU and have job shadows at Grande Ronde Hospital.
Each term TVCC offers a nursing assistant course. The course is hybrid with all class times online and in-person skill/clinical days on Fridays. Clinicals may be offered in Burns with more than four students registered.
Upon completion, students will have met the requirements to take the state certification examination. Credits can be considered dual credit so you are receiving High School internship credits as well. Students must be 16 years or older.
Camp MedStars is a multi-day summer camp hosted at COCC’s Bend Campus for high school students entering their senior year interested in pursuing a career in the healthcare field.
